Minimalist design principles

I've been exploring minimalist design approaches lately and would love to hear your thoughts on the essential principles.

From my research, some key aspects include:

  • Simplicity in form and function
  • Strategic use of negative space
  • Limited color palettes
  • Typography as a primary design element
  • Removing non-essential elements

What would you add to this list? Are there any minimalist designs that particularly inspire you?

Great topic! I would add "intentional hierarchy" to your list. In minimalist design, every element needs to have a clear purpose and position in the visual hierarchy.

One of my favorite examples of minimalist design is the Google search page. It's incredibly simple but effectively guides the user to the primary action.

I completely agree with David about intentional hierarchy. Another principle I'd emphasize is "consistency in interaction patterns."

Minimalist interfaces often rely on consistent, predictable interactions since there are fewer visual cues to guide users.

Apple's product pages are excellent examples of minimalist design that maintains strong usability through consistent interaction patterns.
